Blessed are the pure in heart,
for they will see God
.  – Matthew 5:8

To be blessed is the ultimate well-being and spiritual joy of those who share in the salvation of the Kingdom of God. The beatitudes describe eight ways to be blessed.

In the eighth verse, Jesus tells us to keep our heart pure with thoughts of Him. That means thoughts about ourselves and the things of this world are chaff to be blown away. When my thoughts are filled with God, I see Him in everything and experience His presence.

Let me give you an example. I start my mornings downstairs in front of the fireplace watching the flames leap up in joy and worshipping my Lord. For thirty minutes or so, all I see and think about is Him. Selfish thoughts and the matters of the world are burned away by the fire. To me, that’s purity of heart. I wish the flames would burn in me throughout the day with the same intensity. One day, perhaps, they will.
