THE BREAD OF LIFE
Two weeks ago, I was meditating on the meaning of the cross, when the Holy Spirit put into my mind the 53rd verse of the 6th chapter of the gospel of John: “Jesus said to them, ‘I tell you the truth, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you.’”
Immediately, it became clear to me. It is His blood on the cross that I am to let co-mingle with my blood, spiritually speaking. And His flesh must co-mingle with my flesh. In that way I am one with Him and have life – His life, not mine.
But there’s more to it. If I am one with Him, I must do what He wants me to do and not follow the inclinations of my own natural flesh and blood. That’s a very hard commitment to make, and many of His disciples no longer followed Him.
