GOD’S POCKET 2

Let’s set the record straight. No credit is due me for the following story. I have such a distance to go to become the man God wants me to be that I hesitate to even tell it at all, lest I be seen as boasting.

Tuesday afternoon I was at a large health center campus for a couple of appointments. After my lab work was done, I went out the main door and leisurely walked to a building some 300 yards away. I could see ahead of me a group of people standing in a boulevard near the sidewalk, and it was at that moment that the Holy Spirit revealed to me that one of them would be the recipient of the $20 I had in my God’s pocket (see my October 25th blog posting).

I approached them, and it was a very awkward moment because I didn’t know how to determine who needed the money. They were a group of six: a woman who was holding a seven-month baby, her husband, his father, and two children aged five and three who were romping on the grass near a building. I asked the mother about the baby. I was uncomfortable with intruding in their lives, but they weren’t. It seemed the Holy Spirit had prepared them for what would transpire.

I asked the mother if she had done her Christmas shopping yet. She said no and asked me if I had. I asked her if she had presents for the two youngsters playing on the grass. She became quite sad and told me they were her sister’s children and there would be no presents for them. At that moment, I knew who the money was for. I pulled out my wallet, and she said, “No, you don’t have to do that.” When I explained how my God’s pocket worked, she gratefully accepted the money.

I said, “Give this to you sister for presents for those two.”

Her response was, “No, I will buy the presents myself for them.” I did not ask why. Suddenly I was shaking hands with the father, the son, and the mother. They seemed overwhelmed by God’s grace and blessed the Lord.

As I walked away, I said, “I know you appreciate this, but I think I got more out of it than you did.”

The mother smiled and said, “No, you didn’t.”

Some of you have told me you have money stashed away in your God’s pocket also. If you are so inclined, let me know of instances when the Holy Spirit has prompted you to give His money away. And I will post that in this blog, if you wish. My email address is pday56201@yahoo.com
