THE HIDING PLACE

God has been at work in the affairs of mankind throughout history. How do I know? The Bible tells me so. Oftentimes His involvement is a hidden story.

Where was God when Adolph Hitler’s Nazi Germany was killing six million Jews during World War II? I believe He was weeping that the evil that entered the world in the Garden of Eden had come to such a horrible conclusion. It was some 200,000 depraved people in Germany who were the Holocaust perpetrators, the worst of the worst, so to speak.

Yet out of this came some good. Corrie ten Boom, whose family hid Jews from the Nazi’s, was sent to a concentration camp where her father and sister died. After her release from Ravensbruck in early 1945 due to a clerical error, she made it her life’s mission to tell the world what went on during that infamous period in history and to give testimony that love and goodness can prevail even in the darkest hell. She wrote a book called The Hiding Place in 1971, which has been read by millions of people, and traveled the world to spread her message of faith and endurance well into her eighties.

Another holocaust survivor, Victor Frankl, wrote a book called Man’s Search for Meaning, read by more than nine million people, which espouses that the human person is motivated by a “will to meaning,” an inner pull to find a meaning in life. Though not a Christian book, can there be any meaning that doesn’t start and end with God?
