THANKSGIVING
On the Sundays leading up to Thanksgiving, Pastor Bill delivered a series of sermons on being thankful and showing gratitude. Two Sundays ago, he used what I thought was a great illustration to make a point.
He placed a clear glass of water on a stand and dripped two drops of blue food coloring into the water, turning it immediately into a light blue liquid. I was used to his homely analogies and waited for the message.
“The water is the environment that surrounds all of us. The two drops of food coloring represent spoken gratitude from just two people. Expressing gratitude inspires others and changes your corner of the world. Let people hear it come out of your mouth; they can’t read your mind. Be thankful to everyone around you – family, friends, and those you work with – and they will be affected by your happiness. They can’t help it.”
Pastor Bill concluded his sermon with this reflection: “No one should be more thankful than a Christian.”

Being “thankful” and verbally expressing it requires significant amount of “humility”. It seems you can’t have one without the other:)
