WHEN THINGS GO WRONG
Sometimes in our lives things are so bad they can’t be fixed, like a car spinning out of control on a sheet of ice. What are we to do? Pastor Bill gave three answers to this question in his sermon last Sunday.
- Seek the presence of God. He is your fortress and if you seek the exclusive presence of the Lord, you will not be shaken, though all is falling apart around you.
- Turn to God with all your heart and be holy. Holiness is more important than happiness. Don’t add God to your problems. Put Him first in your life and then add the problems onto that.
- We have to accept that our help comes from the Lord only. Though everything around you shouts out it’s hopeless, He is bigger than your chaos.
Pastor Bill’s sermon came to an end with the last point, but I have one more thought. What if the child you’re praying for is sent to jail? What if your spouse dies despite all your prayers. What if your illness puts you on your back for the rest of your days? The answer to these questions lies in Job 13:15: “Though he slay me, yet will I hope in him.” He did not promise us a life without cares, just the opposite in fact. But He did promise to be with us in our troubles. That’s all we can ask for in this short life. Eternity with Him is just around the corner.
